Below are pictures of the most commonly used systems on the market, and in conjunction with a separate cylinder, will complete the system.
To help with lock identification, make a note of any markings on the door end-plate
(where the latches stick out the door).

Typical faults include:

When the door is closed, difficulty in lifting door handles.
Normal operation when door is open.
Door difficult to operate over a period of time, then suddenly becomes easy to operate.
Normal operation of system, but the locking of the cylinder is difficult either outside, inside or both.
Door will lock, but cannot remove key from the lock.
